Queens Park Station

Updated 10th February 2012

The Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company will enter the new 2012 season with a bigger and better service for all of its passengers – as well as a shiny new ‘gateway’ to The Golden Age of Steam, at a cost of £1.2 million.

Andrew Pooley, General Manager: “We’d like to think this will help to kick-start the rengeration of Paignton. It’s a very exciting development for us and one we’re really looking forward to showing off to the public when we open on 31st March."

The ambitious programme to redevelop Queens Park Station in Paignton during the winter months is well underway. The old station has been demolished and the foundations and steel frame for the new station are in. Sustainability is a huge priority to the company – building firms have been sourced as local as possible and materials will arrive by rail instead of road. The new station will also feature water saving devices, movement sensors, air source heat pumps, super insulated cladding and roofing panels, sun tubes and patent glazed canopy’s to provide a light and spacious environment.

“It’s going to be a modern interpretation of a Great Western Railway station but it won’t look entirely like the GWR. We will have some great surprises in store for our regular and new customers.”

Al’fresco style seating, log burners and outdoor Victorian fairground rides will bring the station to life.

The works started on Tuesday 1st November and should be completed by the 1st of April 2012.

We look forward to welcoming you to the new station in a few months!

Here are some photographs taken over the course of the demolition/build so far. All pictures were taken by Chris Wilson, one of our employees on the railway.
