Things to do in Dartmouth
DARTMOUTH CASTLE. A picturesque-sited fortress. For over 600 years Dartmouth Castle has guarded the narrow entrance to the Dart Estuary and the busy vibrant port of Dartmouth. Imposing ‘Gun Tower’ and Victorian ‘Old Battery’ together with a maze of passages to explore. Thirty minute walk from the town, or take the Castle Ferry from the Embankment. Open every day 1st April – 1st November. Telephone 01803 833588.
ST PETROX CHURCH. Adjoins the Castle, nestles close to the river with an amazing backdrop. Dating back to the 1100’s is steeped in history and is one of the prettiest settings for a church. Thirty minute walk or take the Castle Ferry from the Embankment.
BRITANNIA ROYAL NAVAL COLLEGE. Britannia Royal Naval College overlooks the River Dart and is set in 126 acres of landscaped grounds in Dartmouth. General Public Tours are arranged from the town Easter to the end of October. Please contact Dartmouth Tourist Information Centre www.discoverdartmouth.com.
DARTMOUTH MUSEUM ‘The Butterwalk.’ A small and interesting museum, holding marine and local artefacts. King Charles II held court here, whilst stormbound in 1671. Open: Monday - Saturday Easter through to November. Telephone: 01803 832923.
MARKET DAYS IN DARTMOUTH. Every Tuesday and Friday in the Market Square from Easter to October. Farmers Market held the second Saturday in every month offering local produce.
SHOPS AND RESTAURANTS. Dartmouth boasts two restaurants with Celebrity Chefs, The New Angel and The Seahorse, almost next door to each other on the Embankment! There are several other fabulous cafes and restaurants in the town centre. Dartmouth has many individual shops, boutiques and art galleries

TOTNES CASTLE. A classic Norman castle founded soon after the Conquest to overawe the Saxon town. The castle boasts sweeping views across the town rooftops and the River Dart. Open every day from 1st April to the 1st November. Telephone: 01803 864406.
MARKETS. Fridays and Saturdays – a wonderful eclectic mix of stalls selling a feast of bargains and unusual products. Antiques market held in the Civic Hall on Friday mornings. Totnes Elizabethan Society hosts a small charity and craft market every Tuesday from May through to September.
DARTINGTON CIDER PRESS CENTRE. Approximately a 45minute walk from the town taking you along the riverbank. A selection of boutique style shops and ‘Cranks’ vegetarian restaurant.
