Honour for a volunteer

10th August 2021

We found the perfect way to honour a longstanding volunteer - name a carriage after her! Jean Watson used to watch the trains toing and froing at Paignton with her uncle when she was a child. After a nursing career in London and Cambridgeshire she returned to Devon and began her volunteering with us here at Dartmouth Steam Railway.

In Jean's own words, we have been her second family and we acknowledge what she has done for us over the years, her volunteering work has been incredible - and often boosted morale with her homemade lemon cakes!

Reviews

  • Excellent. Recommended. - Numbers on board restricted due to Covid, but it didn't spoil our enjoyment. The Round Robin three-in-one ticket is a must do if you are in the area.
  • All lovely - All done very well. Everything clean (train/boats), staff friendly and commentary on the river cruise added a bit of fun. Really good day out, lots of families. Take hats, drinks and dogs! If you have one.
  • A big thumbs up... - A great time was had by all. The staff were really friendly and great at explaining. We took the steam train then hopped onto the boat where we spent some time in Dartmouth. It's a lovely touch that even the dog gets a ticket. The views from the steam train were so pretty the train and boat were both very clean and comfortable. A big thumbs up from us!
