Partnering with GWR

13th June 2022

We are absolutely delighted to announce that Great Western Railway has teamed up with our company to offer a through ticket direct to Dartmouth!

Passengers can travel by GWR train to Paignton, before connecting with our steam train to Kingswear, and then by our foot passenger ferry service to Dartmouth.

GWR Commercial Director Phil Delaney said: "It’s great that we’ve been able to put this partnership in place with Dartmouth Steam Railway and & River Boat Company. I believe our customers will love this unique opportunity to travel by GWR train, steam railway and boat to one of the most picturesque spots the south west has to offer."

Purchasing your ticket couldn’t be simpler, either online or through the GWR app. Just remember to input Kingswear (for Dartmouth) in the journey planner.

The new ticket was championed by Totnes MP Anthony Mangnall who said  "I hope residents, visitors and tourists alike will make full use of the throughfare ticket to Dartmouth via Kingswear. This partnership has long been an ambition of mine and I am incredibly pleased to see it come to fruition."

Bookings are available from today (Monday 13 June)  and will remain on sale until Sunday 30 October when our steam service ceases for the winter (excluding our Train of Lights of course!).

Tickets are only available when purchased in advance. Bookings close 23.59 the day before travel and reservations are mandatory.

  • Great!! - We all had such a fantastic day out. From the wonderful, helpful and friendly staff at Paignton to the quick and easy ferry crossing and the brilliant steamboat trip. Our captain on the steamboat was just amazing, so funny and full of brilliant facts and local knowledge.
  • Lovely day out - We decided on a steam train and boat ride day. The train was lovely, and the boat ride was a lot of fun with an entertaining guide, which one of my teenage daughters found hilarious!
  • All lovely - All done very well. Everything clean (train/boats), staff friendly and commentary on the river cruise added a bit of fun. Really good day out, lots of families. Take hats, drinks and dogs! If you have one.
