During another regular maintenance check, the gap between the rail and the rubbing face of the check (rear side of the check rail) was found to have been reduced due to rail lipping. The lip had to be removed to increase the gap to ensure trains are safely able to travel over this set of switch and crossing.
The purpose of a check rail is to guide the train wheel to the correct side of the crossing in order to guide the train on to another line.
